Simon Henri

 

Simon Henri first encountered music by playing the violin for two years in elementary school. In the year 2000, he cofounded his first Hip Hop group: «Asso Fatal»(Jean-Philippe Valerand, David McBain, Jonathan Jobin, Claudric Faubert, Simon Henri), he was 16 years of age. Simon started then and there to compose his own Hip Hop instrumental melodies. Consecutively, he mastered his art for four years to be able to acquire furthermore experiences. Vanguard and passionate, he decided to add to his knowledge and his technical and musical understandings, by expanding his contacts with other artists who perform in using all genres and styles. From Sherbrooke, he decides to move to Montreal to take a course in Sound conception assisted by computer at Musitechnic de Montréal. He now develops a fondness for the electronic/Techno scene and explores more and more experimentation of this type of musical genre on his free time. In the same period of time, on school benches, he meets Jean-François Fontaine, a true follower of electronic music. Jeff then became his associate; he literally opened doors on this fantastic universe of the urban Montreal nightlife. Jeff then organized the meeting of Simon Henri and Olivier Arsenault, since then, these three artists associated and formed the collective Upperground Control Project (UCP).

 

Simon Henri lets himself float through influences, which are enriched by all digital, electronic and synthetic music. Since his teen years, Hip Hop rhythms from here and else where are the soundtrack to his everyday life. During the last three years, he has further concentrated himself on house, tech and electronic, never totally letting go of his Hip Hop beginnings. In general he prefers to listen to Quebec originated music. Since he fancies both Hip Hop and House, his repertoire include some of his favorite artists such as Ghislain Poirier, Dj Shadow, RJD2, Mobb Deep, Spank Rock, Dilated People, Steve Lawler and many more.
